Window Management
Peekdown gives you flexible control over window layout, including native tabs, fill modes, and position presets.
Tabs
Peekdown supports native macOS tabs. Configure tab behavior in Settings > General:
- Automatic — Follows your system preference (System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Prefer tabs)
- Always — New files always open as tabs
- Never — New files always open in separate windows
Use File > Open in New Tab to explicitly open a file as a tab in the current window.
Pin on Top
Keep a window floating above all other windows — useful for referencing documentation while working in another app.
Toggle from the Window menu or click the pin icon in the toolbar.
Fill Modes
Quickly snap windows to preset positions:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| ⌘⇧L | Fill left half of screen |
| ⌘⇧R | Fill right half of screen |
| ⌘⇧C | Center window |
| ⌘⇧F | Full screen |
| ⌘⇧↓ | Stretch window to bottom of screen |
| ⌘⇧↑ | Stretch window to top of screen |
Position Presets
Choose a default window position in Settings > General:
- Center
- Upper-right
- Lower-right
- Upper-left
- Lower-left
New windows open at your chosen position with a slight cascade offset so they don't stack directly on top of each other.
Size Presets
Choose a default window size in Settings > General:
- Small — 500 × 400
- Medium — 600 × 500
- Large — 750 × 600
Press ⌘0 to restore the window to your preset size.
Window Restoration
Enable Restore previous session in Settings > General to automatically reopen your previously open files when you launch Peekdown.
Window position, size, and edit mode state are saved per file and restored automatically.
